Find out more about the plants in your paddock! Workshops in Mudgee, Lithgow and Bathurst

Central Tablelands Local Land Services is hosting a series of Paddock Plants workshops coming up at Mudgee on Saturday 11 November, in the Bathurst region on Friday 1 December, and in the Lithgow region on Saturday 2 December.

"This is a great opportunity to increase your knowledge about local pasture plants and learn more about how to recognise and identify useful plant species,” said workshop organiser and Senior Land Services Officer, Clare Edwards.

“We’ll be looking at the value of common plant species in terms of both livestock feed and land management, and how to increase the production potential of your pastures.”

“We’ve run a lot of paddock plant recognition workshops in recent years, and hundreds of farmers have taken part in these courses.”

“The participants are always extremely enthusiastic when we get out in the paddock because people really want to know more about what’s growing on their country, and how to get the most out of their pasture.”

“Whether you are talking about fertilisers, grazing management, livestock production, or ground cover, it’s always beneficial to have a good understanding of what plant species you’re actually working with,” said Clare.

The workshops will cover introduced and native grasses with hands on activities, including a paddock walk. Participants will also receive a copy of the book, ‘Grasses of the NSW Tablelands.

The ‘Paddock Plants workshops are free but there are limited spaces and RSVP is essential.

Lunch will be provided but landholders are asked to bring a chair and a mug for morning tea, as well as a hat, sturdy shoes and water. Please also ensure that your vehicle is clean.

Participants should advise regarding any special catering needs when they RSVP to Clare Edwards on mobile: 0428 435 615 or email: clare.edwards@lls.nsw.gov.au

This series of Paddock Plants workshops is supported through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, Tocal College, and Central Tablelands Local Land Services.
