All ratepayers are eligible to nominate local board member candidates in 2017 election
03 April 2017
Did you know all Local Land Services ratepayers are eligible to nominate anyone in their region as a candidate in the Local Land Services 2017 Local Board Elections?
Recently appointed Central Tablelands Local Land Services Chair, Ian Rogan is calling on ratepayers to nominate a friend, colleague or themselves to contest a seat on the Central Tablelands local board.
“If you know someone who is passionate about rural and regional NSW and could contribute at a local board level – I encourage you to nominate them in the upcoming local elections,” Ian said.
"Nominated candidates don’t have to be ratepayers - they only need to live in our region.
I encourage ratepayers to put forward representatives who can help build an effective, accountable and useful organisation. This is a real chance to ensure we keep the ‘local’ in Local Land Services.”
Three local board members are locally elected by enrolled Local Land Services ratepayers every three years.
Anyone who is 18 years of age or older can be nominated for election, provided their normal place of residence is in the region they are nominating to represent.
Ratepayers have until 12 pm on 10 April 2017 to nominate a candidate.
“The 2017 elections are being undertaken by Australian Election Company to provide objectivity and support an improved, well-resourced election process,” Ian said.
“Australian Election Company is the first point of contact for enquiries relating to the election process, including candidate information and can be contacted on 1800 224 420 or by visiting austelect.
Mr Rogan said it was important that ratepayers also enrol to vote to have a say about who sits on local boards and communicates the concerns and issues of regional ratepayers.
Key dates to remember:
- NOMINATIONS: Close at 12 pm on 10 April 2017.
- VOTING: Opens 8 May and closes 5 pm 31 May 2017.
