News from the Chair - August

On the 10th July, the Central Tablelands LLS along with our partners, the Australian Government through the National Landcare Programme and the NSW Government through the Catchment Action NSW Programme launched our 2015/16 projects.

The projects this year are all about "building productive, profitable and robust communities". To do this our projects support individuals, businesses, community groups and other government agencies to deliver actions that will add value to local industries, enhance natural resources, and protect industries and our landscapes from pests and disease.

Expression of interest for projects will close on the 28th August, 2015 so I encourage you to contact your local office to find out more about we can offer to support you in getting maximum outcomes for these projects.

Last week I was pleased to hear about the progress being made with the Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE). The CPE will soon be available for use on all lands in NSW. This mechanical devise has been used by the United States Dept. of Agriculture to control coyotes for many years.

The registration of the 1080 capsules used in conjunction with CPE will give land managers in NSW another tool to combat the ever increasing wild dog predation and foxes which is evident in much of our area. Land Managers should contact their local Biosecurity Officer for information on their use and training requirements.

Recently the LLS issued by mail the Annual Return of Land and Stock as at 30 June, 2015. These stock returns are due back by 31/8/2015. The return can be lodged online or by mail to Local Land Services, Locked Bag 6013, Orange 2800

On a personal note, I am looking forward to the Central Tablelands hosting the 2015 Landcare Forum in Orange. Held over three days the forum is shaping up to showcase the great range of projects and initiatives that are happening in our region.

In conjunction with NSW DPI and NSW Landcare the forum will allow us to celebrate the wonderful success that has been achieved by a range of groups, industries, and individuals. I am looking forward to seeing a great range of participants from across NSW who have already started to register for the forum.

In the past couple of weeks we have lodged our Draft Regional Strategic Plan with the Minister for Primary Industries, Hon Niall Blair for comment. This plan is designed to facilitate to the organisation in delivering direct action to our region. Shortly this plan will be available for you to review and provide comment. I encourage everyone to provide feedback to us through the channels that will be provided.

To keep up to date follow us on facebook and twitter.
