Local Environmental Leaders to meet in Parkes

Environmental and water management professionals from across the region will be converging on Parkes this month to share their knowledge in order to improve the management of our natural resources.
The annual Local Government Reference Group and Regional Alliances Forum is being hosted by Central Tablelands and Central West Local Land Services (LLS) to support Councils, other Regional Local Government bodies and key stakeholders involved in natural resource management.
The meeting will attract representatives from:
Central West Local Land Services
Central Tablelands Local Land Services
Bathurst-Orange-Dubbo Sustainability Alliance
Central West Councils Salinity & Water Quality Alliance
Centroc Water Utilities Alliance
Lower Macquarie Water Utilities Alliance
Participants will have the opportunity to hear a range of presentations on the activities and directions of these important regional bodies.
Expert speakers will present on a range of topics including catchment characteristics, rainfall cycles across central NSW, climate change predictions and how to use them as well as the EPA funded Contamination Central project that will assist Councils to better manage contaminated land.
"Local Government has many responsibilities in managing our natural resources, local sustainability and community vibrancy" commented Senior Lands Services Officer – Local Government, Diana Kureen.
"This forum will be a significant opportunity to foster effective working relationships and to work towards the Local Land Services mission of providing the tools to enhance our natural resources and build productive, profitable and robust communities".
The Central West Local Government Reference Group has been operational for nearly ten years bringing together the Central Tablelands and Central West Local Land Services and nineteen member Councils to manage natural resources across Local Government and LLS boundaries.
The forum will be held at the Parkes Shire Council office, Committee Room on Tuesday 21 May 2015.
