Come planting in the Vale!

Now the sun is shining it's time to get planting! Everyone is invited to help out at a planting day that will be held on the council reserve near the corner of Mort Street and Hartley Road on Saturday October 31st.

Central Tablelands Local Land Services (LLS) and Lithgow City Council, with support from the Lithgow & Districts Landcare Group and Lithgow Oberon Landcare Association are removing willows and other noxious weeds in the council reserve on the Vale of Clwydd Creek between Mort Street and Chifley Drive.

Stuart Lovejoy, Land Services Officer at Central Tablelands LLS stated, "Willows were having a negative impact on water quality, water flow and native plants and animals in general. This area of infestation was targeted as it would in time re-infest Farmers Creek and Lake Pillans if we hadn't have acted."

"The willow removal has gone very well, and we had a great day planting in spring last year. The trees and shrubs we put in to replace the willows are doing very well.

But we still have more plants to put in, and we want to make this day bigger and better than last year. And of course, we'll be providing a barbeque at the end of it – planting trees can really work up an appetite", Stuart said.

The day will start at 10am and go through till lunchtime. Everybody is welcome, especially first-timers. We can teach you everything you need to know, and you can come to plant 1 tree or 20 – and the barbecue is free.

For further information or to RSVP for the planting day, please contact Stuart Lovejoy, Land Services Officer on (02) 6350 3113.
