Calling for members - Aboriginal Advisory Group

Central Tablelands Local Land Services is calling for nominations for a newly established Central Tablelands Aboriginal Advisory Group.

“We’re seeking to engage more closely with Aboriginal people and communities across the Central Tablelands and we’re looking for representatives who are actively involved in their communities to get involved in this new Advisory Group,” said Larry Towney, Senior Land Services Officer (Aboriginal Communities).

Nominations are open for two Aboriginal community representatives each from Mudgee, Lithgow, Orange, Bathurst, and Cowra areas to make up a total of 10 local Aboriginal community representatives.

“We want to build on our ongoing relationship with Aboriginal organisations and communities to inform the Cultural Heritage and Aboriginal Cultural values of Central Tablelands Local Land Services,” said Larry.

The Central Tablelands is rich in Aboriginal cultural heritage and there are substantial areas of land on the Central Tablelands that is owned and managed by Aboriginal Land Councils.

Local Aboriginal communities also hold valuable knowledge about natural resource management that can be shared with the broader community to contribute to the sustainable future of our landscape.

“This new Aboriginal Advisory Group will help share knowledge and information in partnership with Central Tablelands Local Land Services,” said Larry.

“Local Land Services often works with Land Councils and other Aboriginal organisations on land management projects such as revegetation and feral pest control, but the Aboriginal Advisory Group will create a more formal structure for providing advice to Local Land Services on the best way to work with Aboriginal people on natural resource management in our region.”

Advisory Group members will also assist Local Land Services staff with planning Aboriginal natural resource management forums and will help identify opportunities for forming constructive partnerships in natural resource management.

Nominees seeking appointment must be able to demonstrate Aboriginality and live within the boundaries of the Central Tablelands.

Potential candidates should contact Larry Towney on 04384898308 489 830 or their nearest Local Land Services office for a copy of the charter and application form.
