Training available for new fox and wild dog control tool

Central Tablelands Local Land Services (LLS) are conducting a series of training events to ensure land managers remain compliant with NSW pesticide legislation when controlling pest animals on their properties.

The Vertebrate Pesticide Induction Training course (VPIT) now includes training in the recently registered Canid Pest Ejector (CPE). CPEs are mechanical devises that deliver a precise dose of thetoxin 1080 when activated by foxes and wild dogs.

CPEs have a benefit over traditional baiting measures of remaining lethal until activated as the toxicant is protected within a capsule.

CPEs can be left in the field for longer periods of time and cannot be removed and cached by foxes, making a control program much safer for non target animals such as working dogs.

The VPIT course must be completed by any person wishing to complete the CPE training.

The VPIT course covers in detail, the legislated requirements of pesticide users in NSW and the practical application of 1080 and Pindone poisoned baits.

People who have completed the VPIT course in the past and hold a current card can enroll in the CPE course. There is no charge for this additional training.

Landholders who hold a level three chemical accreditation, are required to complete the VPIT course prior to the CPE training but can do so at no charge.

Land holders who do not hold an accreditation of any sort can complete both training sessions for a course fee of $50.00.

Participants in the VPIT course will gain a five year qualification that allows them to access and use prepared 1080 and Pindone baits on their property or on behalf of another person. The CPE training is a "one off" training with no expiry.
