Weed management workshop
10 March 2014
Do you know about weeds management in NSW? Would you like to find out more and provide some input? The Natural Resources Commission (NRC) has prepared a draft recommendations report on the future of weeds management in NSW derived from over 200 public submissions which were received in response to the initial Issues Paper released late last year.
The draft recommendations outline a number of proposed reforms to better prevent and eradicate new outbreaks, and improve control of widespread weeds including:
- Working across tenures with the community, private and public landholders to manage widespread weeds regionally;
- Boosting accountability and performance through audits of local control authorities;
- Increasing efforts to prevent and eradicate incursions, including creating a reserve fund for responding to new high risk incursions; and
- Implementing a property weed status certification scheme, and requiring registration of fodder and plant traders contingent on weed status.
Now it's time to have your say!!
Ian Armstrong, Chair of Central Tablelands Local Land Services (LLS) is encouraging residents within the Central Tablelands LLS to attend a meeting in Cowra on March 25 at the Cowra Services Club, 101 Brisbane Street from 11am to 2 pm and do just that.
"This is an issue that affects us all. I would love to see as many as possible attend so that together we can make sure your needs are being met" Mr Armstrong stated.

Submissions in response to the draft report will be accepted until 6 April 2014, with the final report to be prepared for the Minister for Primary Industries by late May 2014.
